Working with DYW (Developing the Young Workforce) to inspire students
Enevate Homes, as an industry partner are working with the Scottish Government’ Programme, the DYW (Developing the Young Workforce) to inspire school pupils and college students to gain the skills needed for the world of work.
On the 24th of August 2022, 20 students and teachers from St Aidan’s High School and Coltness High visited our factory facility in Wishaw. The day consisted of registration, and introductions followed by a presentation which led onto a factory tour. The visit finished with a question-and-answer session facilitated by Enevate’s Management Team and refreshments. The students had real life inspiration to work in the modular industry as a number of Enevate employees were taught by the teachers visiting the factory and it was a great opportunity for teachers and ex-pupils to catch up.
The feedback we have received has been exemplary; the students and staff thoroughly enjoyed being shown how we use modern methods of construction to build our modules. We have had numerous students requesting more information about work experience with us which could lead to apprenticeships in the future. We also hope to be offering work inspiration and preparation activities to students which will include employability skills, interview preparation workshops, mock interview and careers talks. We are also working with the schools to enhance our social media presence with two students taking on a marketing project on our behalf.
The next exciting step on the journey to establishing modern methods of construction in education is a visit from the Scottish Minister for schools, Mr. Jamie Hepburn will visit us at the end of September 2022 to try and establish an apprenticeship programme which will be bespoke to Modern Methods of Construction, rather than the traditional routes of electrical, plumbing, joinery etc.
